Ten Things You Need To Know To Get Started with SQL Server 2005 Samples
which is3 – To install the samples and sample databases from the SQL Server 2005 Setup, you need to click the Advanced button on the Components to Install page, then expand Books Online and Samples and select Samples. This only installs the Samples MSI on your machine. To complete the installation, you need to run the Samples MSI. You can do this from the Start menu: click All Programs, click Microsoft SQL Server 2005, click Documentation and Tutorials, click Samples, and then click Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Samples.
By copying the SQLEXPR.EXE to the directory containing the SQL .exe I can get to "SQL Server 2005 Express Setup" (note it is not SQL Server 2005 Setup) using CHANGE from ADD/REMOVE programs; however, there is no Advanced button so I can't complete step three.
All the databases and tuturials seem to be in the right directories. I have explored SSME and the config utility and do not see anyway to do this using them.
Has anyone installed and used the sample databases?
Thanks,
R
Yes, this is a individual download. Samples are (AFAIK) not shipped with SQLExpress. But you download them from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=65209

|||Jens,
Thanks for the reply.
You actually solved my problem with your reply to Martin Hooper, I think. I can now at least see and query the sample databases - I have not tried to do anything with them - still can't find any documentation or help on SQLExpress - specifically the tutorials.

|||Help files for SQL Server can be found in the BOL, this can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=BE6A2C5D-00DF-4220-B133-29C1E0B6585F&displaylang=en
