Hi All,
We are about to do a SAN upgrade and I was wondering what the best option
for moving our SQL2000 databases from one SAN to the other is?
Am I safe to simply stop the SQL services, move the database files across,
re-assign the drive letters etc and then restart SQL?
Any wisdom will be gratefully received!
Thanks!
Aaron
Hi Aaron,
I think you're quite safe, but what I would do is:
1. deattach databases
2. copy databases
3. reassign drive letters
4. attach databases.
Of course a backup is more then recommended before anything else.

I gather detaching and re-attaching will retain users as well?
I also need to move all the system databases as well...
Thanks!

Yes detaching and attaching will retain users.
For system databases I would just copy them:
1. copy databases
2. reassign drive letters
3. start SQL
